HOLLY SRA

Holly State Recreation Area covers 8.000 acres of rolling hills, woodlands, and prairies. The park has over 35 miles of trails, including the Holly-Holdridge Mountain Bike Trail. The park also boasts over 20 lakes, some very accessible, some not so much. What a great weekend this was. We all met up at the park headquarters at 9:30 am. We began with an introduction, then layed out a game plan, broke up into teams and headed into the park.

The weather could not have been better for the event. The rain held off, the temperature was hovering around 70 and there was a pleasant breeze all day.

Some of us had made a preliminary trip to the park on two prior occasions. Not until we really dug in did we discover the need for our teams efforts. In about 4 hours of cleanup activity, we filled a five yard dumpster, towed a hottub back to the head quarters, and layed another five yards of trash next to the dumpster. We hate to see all that garbage out there but we feel like we really made a difference that weekend and kudos to all the members who put in the time to assist the Holly SRA during this event.

Some of us made a weekend of it and decided to camp at Holly SRA that weekend. Big_Fish Matt might be the best camping partner one can find, I am going to add him to the "must bring" camping list. Homemade maple syrup and jam, venison sloppy joes, and coffee martinis were on the menu and we were appreciative. Thanks Matt! We also got some fishing in after the event on Wildwood and Valley lakes, no trophies but the action was good on natural pumkinseed Gulps. We also made some friends with a few campers from Central Michigan University and played some bocci. It was a great weekend courtesy of Holly State Park.
